Inspired By Nature: Green Interior Design

Green Interior

As we are becoming more and more involved in the wellbeing of our planet and sustainability is slowly becoming the biggest trend not only in interior design but also in fashion, it would be a good time to thank everyone who has made nature and everything natural modern once again. In contrast to several decades ago when sustainability was not important, when decorating your home with the most harmful materials was popular and when the state of nature and the Earth was not important, the new decade has something new in store for us. The trend of greenery and sustainability is not a new one as it has been around for several years now, but it is only to become more popular and more important for everyone. So, if you happen to be remodeling or redecorating your house and you want some tips and tricks on how to make it more natural and prettier, you’ve come to the right place.

Use natural materials

So, in order to start in the right way, it would be a great idea to start thinking about the materials that you are going to incorporate in your house. We are not talking about plants right now but about the natural materials that your furniture should be made out of. The safest materials to choose are stone and wood – you can choose the former for the walls and the latter for the flooring as these two together will create an amazing atmosphere and they will also look rather cool.

Play with plants

Once you have chosen the materials for your furniture, walls and flooring, it is time to start greening your space up. If you want to rock the concept with plants, you will have to make a list of all the plants that you will put in your home and decide where. Note that the benefits of the biophilic design concept are many, from the obvious one (it looks amazing) all the way to the health benefits as plants are there to purify the air and thus make the whole atmosphere in your home more natural and fresh. This means that anytime you get the chance to place a plant in your living room, find the right place for it and let it grow there. Of course, not all plants are high maintenance. If you are a newbie, you can always start with different succulents and other hardy plants.

Have plenty of light

In order to create the perfect plant heaven in your own home, there are other factors that you have to take into consideration as well. One such is natural light, as there are plenty of plants that will not make it if you put them into a dark room. In order to make the most out of the situation, opt for white walls as these will create the illusion of a lighter room with a lot of natural light. However, if you cannot add more windows or do anything to let more natural light in, there are different lamps that mimic the light that you need, so you can have that as a backup plan.

Other elements

Making your home inspired by nature doesn’t only mean incorporating plenty of plants all around the rooms. There are other elements that matter as well, such as air and water, for example. But how can you introduce these two into interior design? As far as air is concerned, make sure that the air is always fresh. So, either add several air purifiers or keep a window open from time to time. Another great way to add a twist is by hanging a painting or a poster of mountains, sky or clouds somewhere on a wall. As far as water is concerned, you can also opt to have a poster of the ocean or something else that is soothing, but you can also invest a bit in your home and get a fountain that not only will make the living room a more interesting place but it can help you a lot in stress management as well.

So, the bottom line is: keep the materials as natural as possible, add a lot of light and keep the colors very light as well. Never go with dark colors for the interior, especially if you want to make your own small botanical garden at home.
